Building Trust is Like Building Fitness

One of the most common frustrations I hear from managers is: “I just don’t feel like my team trusts me yet.”

The mistake? Thinking trust is built in one grand moment. It’s not.

Trust is like fitness training — built steadily, rep by rep, through consistent effort over time.

In sport, you don’t get match-fit by going for one long run. It takes regular sessions, showing up day after day. Miss too many trainings, and your fitness disappears.

Leadership trust works the same way. It’s built in the small moments: keeping promises, showing up on time, listening fully, giving credit, admitting mistakes.

Your challenge this week:

Identify one small daily action that shows reliability — and commit to it. Over time, those reps will build leadership “fitness” your team can rely on.
