When I coached my kids’ soccer team years ago, I remember how every game looked the same. The moment the ball moved, the whole team sprinted toward it. All seven of them crowded in, legs everywhere, chasing the ball like a swarm.
It was chaos — no space, no shape, no strategy. They were putting in plenty of effort, but not much progress.
A lot of leaders do the same thing. They chase everything. Every problem, every new idea, every demand that pops up. It feels productive because you’re moving fast, but after a while you realise you’re just running in circles.
The truth is, leadership is less about chasing and more about choosing. The best leaders know where their attention matters most. They hold their position, trust their people, and pick the plays that move the team forward.
When you stop chasing every ball, you create room for others to step in. You build a team that makes decisions, takes responsibility, and grows in confidence.
This week’s challenge:
Take a look at your week ahead and ask yourself, “Where should I focus my energy to make the biggest difference?” Stay there. Let the rest of the noise play on around you.
