A new leader told me recently, “I feel like I need to prove myself by doing everything.”
This is a common trap.
In rugby, the captain doesn’t need to be the top try-scorer. Their role is to set the tone, call the plays, and keep the team aligned. The best captains actually score less because they’re busy creating opportunities for others to shine.
Leadership isn’t about being the star performer. It’s about setting your people up for success. That might mean removing barriers, providing clarity, or stepping back so others can step forward.
Challenge this week:
Ask yourself: “Am I trying to score every try… or am I creating opportunities for others?” Then adjust accordingly.
